Artist Biography

Artist Bio-  George Alex   (source Hac bio book)

George Alex is a self-taught artist who was introduced to decoy duck carving by a close friend. Wood carving came easy for him, but learning to paint took a bit more time. Upon retirement from the California Department of Forestry, George was able to focus on his craft and has become recognized for his unique creations of miniature duck and bird decoys using vintage wooden golfclubs. These re-purposed golf clubs are fondly known as “Quacker Woods”.

George relocated to Lake Havasu, Arizona in 2003 and became a juried member of the Arizona State Art Alliance and The Lake Havasu Art Guild.   He has been the recipient of several awards and ribbons for his sculptures of Wildfowl.  His work has been displayed and sold in art shows, galleries and shops in Arizona, California, Utah and Mexico.  His passion is to carve and paint various species of birds, ducks and the restoration of old wooden “working decoys”.
